Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle School (J-E-T) held its annual Veterans Day program Friday, November 9, 2018. Students gathered in the gymnasium to pay their respects to local veterans and their respected branches. “Listening to the speaker and watching the presentation on the screen, brought tears to my eyes,” said Luigi Palma, seventh grader.

James Holland, 25 year Army veteran, and former educator in the Aiken County Public School District spoke to the students about respect, responsibility and always being ready to learn, as well as what it means to be a veteran. He gave a brief history of Veterans Day and why it was important to celebrate it, as well as honor our Veterans for their service. He challenged the students to take pride in themselves and their country and to not take for granted the freedoms we have here. “I watched as the students listened to Mr. Holland and it gave me a sense of pride,” said Whitney Martin, Special Education teacher.
