Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle School (J-E-T) seventh grade students participated in the second annual social studies debate between Ms. Christy Caldwell’s eighth period boys and Mr. Timothy Williams’ eighth period girls class. John Pettigrew, former Edgefield county administrator, moderated the debate and began with stories of his college debate team. The students debated on which form of government was better, unlimited or limited, with Williams’ having limited government stance and Caldwell having unlimited government.

Ultimately, Williams’ class took the victory and the title of debate champions for 2018. “Each student who participated did an amazing job. It takes a lot of time and research to prepare to have knowledgeable conversation and be able to defend your side,” Williams said. “I am extremely proud of both of our classes, they both showed great strength and knowledge about their separate topics. Caldwell said.
