J-E-T’s Second Academic Pep Rally a Sweet Victory
Posted on 05/04/2018

Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton (J-E-T) Middle School held its secondacademic pep rally on Friday, April 1, at the end of the day as a positive send-off before spring break. Typically, a pep rally is held to get students excited about an upcoming sporting event and to encourage the students to attend that event to support their peers, but this academic pep rally highlighted student achievement in academics and athletics and teacher achievement, as well.Students received tumblers filled with goodies for having the highest growth on their math or reading Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test for their grade level team. There was a basketball free throw contest in which students tried to make as many free throws as they could in one minute. Teachers were recognized for outstanding demonstration of the “seven habits” as explained in the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, which the staff has been reading together and discussing, and were also awarded tumblers full of goodies. As Principal Debbie Courtney called up each teacher, she explained how the teacher had displayed one or more of the habits and listed the fantastic things the individual teachers have been doing for J-E-T this year.

The finale of the pep rally came about as a result of a competition between grade levels. Each grade was competing to get the highest number of positive points. The winning grade level would get to choose which faculty or staff member to turn into an ice cream sundae by pouring ice cream over the person and adding toppings such as syrup, sprinkles, and whipped cream. The seventh grade won and selected Miss Cecilia Bryant and Mr. Calvin Graham as the lucky participants.
