Posted on 02/14/2019

Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle School (J-E-T) and Merriwether Middle School’s eighth grade students participated in career day at J-E-T on February 8, 2019. Students chose three possible careers and were able to talk with a professional in that area for 45 minutes. “I really enjoyed listening to Peyton Smith! Sometimes, playing a professional sports seems just like a dream, but he made me feel like I could really accomplish it,” eighth grader, Trinity Jones says.

Along with becoming an athlete, students could choose between professions such as, teaching, acting, engineering, cosmetology and agriculture, truck driving, welding and becoming a veterinarian. Students from both schools also were introduced to some programs offered at the Strom Thurmond Career Center and were able to talk to some students regarding their experience.  “I just would like to thank the Strom Thurmond Career Center, the administrators and teachers at Merriwether Middle School, the J-E-T teachers and each professional that came out to talk with our students. These students were truly amazed and have a new perspective on their lives.” School Counselor Tara Rutland says.
