There is always something going on at Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton (J-E-T) Middle School to unify students and staff and get them involved. One example of this was on Wednesday, September 27, when the J-E-T Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) participated in “See You at the Pole.” According to FCA sponsor Meredith Burnett, this is a national, student-led event where students come together in a circle near the flag pole at their schools to pray aloud whatever is weighing on their hearts. The students at J-E-T held hands, and a student began to pray aloud. Then, the next person in the circle prayed and so on until everyone had a chance to speak. If someone in the circle chose not to pray aloud, that person would simply squeeze the hand of the next person to continue. The event was a very peaceful and calming experience.

Another example of the many things happening at J-E-T is the Pink Out Day celebrated Thursday, October 5. Sponsored by the J-E-T cheerleaders in order to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, students and faculty all wore pink, from shirts to socks to hair bows. Seventh grade cheerleader Jaliyah Abney remarked, “Everybody should support people with cancer so they won’t feel stressed out and alone.” Cheerleaders scheduled times for face painting before school and during lunch when they would paint pink ribbons or pink stripes on students and faculty. J-E-T teacher Ellie Theis commented, “I was excited to see all the kids come together in unity to support such a great cause.”

Several football players will wear pink socks and pink laces at all their games during the month of October. The cheerleaders created a banner for the football players to run through as they came onto the field to compete against Whitmire in that night’s game. The banner read, “Time to Tackle Breast Cancer.”
