Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton (J-E-T) Middle School had the privilege of participating in the very first middle school Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) competition at York Middle School on Friday, April 27. HOSA is a health science organization for high school and middle school students who are interested in future health careers.

This year, J-E-T joined York Middle School to become the only two middle schools in the state of South Carolina to have a HOSA chapter. Jordan Baker and Madelyn Wise, 11th grade students from Strom Thurmond High School, were instrumental in beginning the middle school chapter at J-E-T. Jill Cockrell, J-E-T Middle School nurse and HOSA advisor, states, “It was such a privilege to accompany these students to their first competition. Madelyn and Jordan have worked very hard to start this chapter and assist the students with preparing for the different competitive events.” Cockrell explained that she is impressed by the hard work and dedication the middle school students devoted to preparing for this competition. She said the students represented J-E-T well, and all are proud of this accomplishment.

The following students participated in the HOSA competition: Tyler Clark, who won 3rd place for medical terminology; Tiara Bush, who won 2nd place for medical terminology; Neely Logue, who won 3rd place for the design of an Extemporaneous Health Poster; Bailey Mims, who won 2nd place for the Extemporaneous Health Poster; Abby Amos, Hannah Bates, Audrey Murrell, Marisol Palma, Savannah Prescott, and Beth Yonce, who created a Health Career Display; Kayla Hall and Bailey Skinner, who won 2nd place for their Health Career Display; and Leah Baker and Makenzie Wise, who won 1st place for their Health Career Display.
